How do I promote flowers on a miniature rose bush?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I have an indoor miniature rose bush. The leaves are growing well, but it has not had roses in quite some time. Is there a way to promote growth of the flowers? Thanks

You have to prune roses to get flowers.
all roses grow leaves the same way.
Look at the ends of your plants and count the number of leaves on each branch.
You will see branches with either 3, 5 or 7 leaves.
If you keep the branches pruned at the 5 leaf point, you get more stems with 3 leaves and more flowers.
If you prune at the 7 leaf point you will get more branches with 5 leaves and then stems with 3 leaves and a flower.
.
In addition,,
Use a high phosphate, low-nitrogen fertilizer when feeding.

What is a cheap alternative for wedding flowers?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I want the look of flowers but not the price (where I live the cheapest is $250) and I’m on a very tight budget. I was wondering if there is any way I can have flowers that look great without the price tag. I want to only spend maybe 100. I have 3 bridesmaids, 3 grooms men, and one flower girl. I also want the groom to have a flower or something, the 2 moms and the 2 grandmoms. Any ideas? I dont really want to use fake flowers either. Its an outdoor wedding

I am either going to order my flowers from Costco.com or just put ribbons around grocery store bouquets.

I have practiced creating bouquets and am buying my flowers in bulk and everything else I need from a craft store. I am creating boutonnieres for 5 groomsmen, my fiance, and 2 dads. I am making corsages for 3 grandmothers and 2 moms, bouquets for myself and 5 bridesmaids.

I am looking into prices of flowers and types. Carnations have always been a favorite of mine, and at costco.com they are $74.99 for 150 stems. Hydrangea are easy to work with because you need very few stems to complete your look, they’re $109.99 for 30 stems. There’s a lot of options out there for a girl on a budget! Look at your friends’ and families’ yards, they may have pretty flowers that they will allow you to pick and use right from the garden! My cousin did that, she got all the blue hydrangea from her parents’ neighborhood. Her flowers were great!

What is used to create a "wet look" on silk flowers?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I purchased some silk flowers that had fake "water droplets" on them. They were beautiful! Store personnel were unable to tell me how it was done.
Hot glue gun sounds like it would work…however, how do you form the "water drops" without a "peak" forming?
By the way, you folks are great!!! Thanks for the answers!!!!

Hot glue gun yes, to form the droplets you need to let your gun heat at least 15 minutes. The hotter the glue, the clearer and more uniform the droplets.

Which stage of flower is called flower seed? How to save and preseve the seeds during the off season?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I have a winter flower plant in my lawn which was full of flowers in the season. Now as the summer season is approaching the plant has started deteriorating. Can anyone tell me how do i save and preserve it for the next season? I know nothing about flower seeds, how they look like and how to preserve them. Any kind of help will be heartily appreciated… Thank you

Plants grow, flowers bloom and are pollenated by wind or insects. Petals fall off of flower leaving the ovule which contains the seeds. This is what you want to gather and save. Different flowers produce differently shaped seeds.

I keep my seeds in paper envelopes. Using plastic for storage will encourage mold which kills the germ in seeds so they won’t germinate.

If your flower is perennial, the roots will survive the summer and plant will resprout in winter. If you’d say what it is we might be able to show you an image of what the seed looks like.

good luck

Can you send flowers to someone on a military base?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I wanted to send flowers to someone who is sick, but they are located on a military base. Can you send flowers to someone on a military base, or are there restrictions?

No, as long as the florist has proper documentation to get into the base such as valid insurance, registration and ID they can get in. You can also call the base operator alot of bases have flower shops located in there that can deliver and that will be a less hassle, but I work in a base and have seen flowers delivered.

Can anyone suggest a good home recipe for adding to water to keep cut flowers fresh? ?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

When you are gifted with, or buy, fresh flowers you get a little packet of powder to add to the water to feed the flowers and keep them fresh. That is supposed to be done every 3 or 4 days so the flowers outlast the flower food. Anyone have a good home recipe?

Sunset Magazine did some experimentation on this subject. The best they found was using lemon flavored soda in the water. I think it was 2/3 water to 1/3 soda.

Some flowers (stocks) last longer if the stems are pounded. Poppies last if you sear the stems with a flame. Roses need to be re-cut under water. Suspect you could do a Yahoo search and get more specifics.

Should funeral flowers be delivered the day of or the day before?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I need to send flowers, and the viewing is on Monday. However, since Monday is Labor Day, I’m coming across a lot of online flower delivery sites that do not give Monday as an option. If I want to go with one of these, is it okay to deliver the flowers the day before the viewing? Is this usually what people do, or do they have them delivered the morning of the viewing? (Thanks in advance)

since I buried both my mom and dad this year I can honesty say it doesn’t matter. They will all go out to the cemetery with the deceased .The family will greatly appreciate it no matter when they are delivered. But if you can get them delivered for some reason have them go to one of the next of kin.

Who invented commercial flower delivery or who was first to send flowers through the mail?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

The Ancient Romans and Ancient Greeks had flower sellers, and people often used the Roman equivalent of the postal service to deliver flowers.

So I suspect it had to be the Romans.

I hope that helps.

What website in Hong Kong can deliver flowers and not pay online but when they get here!?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I find it hard to find a website where I can buy flowers and send it to my house then pay in cash!? Its mothers day coming up and I’m 13 and want to buy flowers for my mum (as a surprise) but I don’t have a credit card… Help!
any good websites?

You don’t need flowers just to appreciate your mom…you coulda make your own card or buy a Mother’s day card and write a letter how do you appreciate everything she did for you…=)
You don’t need to spend to make your mom special…try to make something without money

How far in advance should I order flowers for wedding favors?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I am ordering vases for wedding favors, which will double as centerpieces. How far in advance should I order the flowers? I will need about 125.

Order them as soon as possible from any wholesale website but have them delivered 4 days in advance so that the blooms open and look their best for your special day. If ordering from a florist the sooner the better when ordering because chances are you are not the only bride or customer for that day.
