Has anyone ever seen a rose bush with multi colored flowers on it?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I have a rose bush that has one red rose with very little orange in the center, several that are yellow with orange tips and one that is pink with a very light pink center. This is all one on bush!! I’ve never seen anything like it and was wondering if this is normal. I’m not a flower person and don’t know jack about them. I took pictures because I thought "If this isn’t normal, no one will ever believe me." And to think I thought about taking it out because I’m allergic to the bees it attracts.

This is a grafted rose of many colors. When prunning, do not cut too close to the roots, as you will cut off the stems that the roses of different colors come from. Never prune closer than about 8" from the root stock.

Has anyone bought their wedding flowers from a grocery store?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I am DIY-ing my wedding flowers and I had heard that you can get wholesale flowers from grocery stores. Is this a good idea? I’d rather not get them from the internet, and I do not have a costco or sams club near me.

Has anyone gotten their flowers from a grocery store, and what store did you get them from? I have a Price Chopper, a shaws, and a Hannafords. Also, how much did they cost you?

Yes, I bought my wedding flowers, and flowers for every occasion, from a small corner flower/grocery store. The lady who worked there arranging the flowers, and part time cashier, was known for her beautiful arrangements. She did an incredible job of lengthy floral arrangements for the candelabra, my bouquet, attendant’s bouquets and small arrangements for the back of each chair and the ends of the pews in the church.

Speak to the person who works in the grocery store and find out on what day they receive their flowers. If they are delivered on Monday and your wedding is on Saturday, it might not be the best place to buy them. However, if they receive them on Thursday or Friday, they will certainly be fresh on Saturday. Take a look at the arrangements they have displayed in the store and see who has an ‘eye’ for nice arrangements. Find out what they are able to do and, if the price is good, go for it.

would silk flowers be a better choice for a wedding?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I am getting married and I want to have silk flowers so I don’t have to worry about wilting and they will look fresh all day. Along with the fact that I would like to keep the flowers to decorate later. Any suggestions?

I went with silk flowers for my wedding because my allergies. Real flowers make my eyes water and my nose run no matter what I take. Not a flattering look for photos! I also live in Texas where it’s very hard to keep real flowers alive because of the heat and humidity. Overall, I think silks are the best way to go. There will always be some snobs that’ll turn their noses up, but as long as you like it and it’s what you want then ignore them. This is about celebrating your marriage to the love of your life, not an exhibit on your bank account.
Silk flowers have come along way since they were first created. The more expensive ones not only look just as nice as real ones, but they’ll last longer, save you money, (although some of the nicer ones cost just as much as the real things!) will let you find flowers that you couldn’t get otherwise, and wont make anyone break out in hives or have an asthma attack.

Overall, I’d take my time in looking. Another good thing about silks is that you can get them way in advance and experiment. If you can’t find what you want in person, go online, but be sure that the dealer has good reviews.

You do what you need to do and don’t worry about! Have a great wedding!

How do I create a flower garden around a tree? I am a beginner in gardening and planting?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I have an old tree in front of my home. I like to add a flower bed around the tree, but I am new to planting and gardening. Also, my lawn needs a lot of care. Last year my husband tilled part of our lawn and we replanted new grass, but our lawn looks very unhealty with a lot of try, burned like spots. What can I do to have a healthy lawn, and how do I go about creating my flower bed around the tree. I like to put a border around the tree like a small wall maybe. I want the flower bed be higher than the actual lawn. We have mostly clay dirt. Can you give me some advice and/or help. Thanks.

Two words: Container Gardening.

What kind of flowers would you send on the anniversary of a death?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I’d like to send flowers to a girl whose grandmother passed away a year ago, but I don’t know what is an appropriate type of flower for the occasion. Any advice is welcome, although I’m on a budget. (If it’s relevant, we’re dating, though not exclusively).

All these previous answers are very good. Was there a certain flower she especially like? Whateever has a lot of meaning, or is really beautiful, or smells really good. You know it’s the thought that counts. :)

I need to have flowers delivered to a house in another state. How do i go about getting that done?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Im in a long distance relationship and i want my girlfriend to come home to flowers from me, how should i go about getting them delivered and dealing with the payment and everthing?

AND I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHERE TO PLACE THIS QUESTION, SO IM SURE ITS IN THE WRONG PLACE BUT PLEASE STILL ANSWER

Hey, no problem about where the question is placed!

So here it goes: I would definietely order flowers online because it wll be so much easier than trying to call a flower shop in the area that you want them delievered and track a person down to do this. All you have to do is visit a floral delievery website and a few clicks later your flowers are on the way. Plus it’s cheaper too.

Below is a link to an eHow article that I came across that should help you find a decent place at a fair price.

Is there a flower deliver company that will allow you to send a few flowers, and not a whole bouquet?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I literally only want to send a few of my choice, but I haven’t been able to find one that will allow you to.

Not likely. They make their money on the amount of flowers and the delivery. If you find a company that will do this, be prepared for a high price.

Can anyone suggest a good website to order flowers?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I want to send flowers to my friend for her birthday but she on the opposite side of the state from me so I wanted to know if anyone could advise me on a good reliable but inexpensive floral service.
and can you tell me your own experiences with the site…its easy to just type it in on google but i want someone who has actually used the sites to answer thanks :]

I’ve done this many times. The FTD site is wonderful. They also have a toll free number. You can specify how much you want to spend. They have special arrangements for different occasions. You can buy a small or large – same arrangement different prices. VERY reasonable.
