What is the best fertilizer to get my flowering plants to FLOWER well?

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Hi, I have tons of flowers and flowering plants that are beautiful BUT they do not flower a great deal. I do use my own compost but am wondering if there are any other natural things (as compost is) to produce flowers. Now I have heard that when picking a store product that one should always look for themiddle number of the three to be the greatest. True???? Thanks, Karen

What is a yellow flowering plant hardy in New England winter that can be put in a flower box?

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Anyone know of a flowering plant that comes in yellow that I can put in my flower box? I live in New England, and they always die over the winter.
What does plant it in annuals mean? Thanks for the tip about lining the boxes, I will!

When a plant is in a planter in winter it doesn’t only freeze from the top it freezes from the sides making it a deeper freeze than in the ground. No matter which perennial you plant in it it will die over winter

You have a few options–
You can plant it in annuals
You can line the inside of your box with rigid styrofoam sheeting. If the bottom sits on the ground it’s fine. If it sits above the ground you may want to slip some under it for winter.
You can plant in a pot and set it in the planter and lift it out and bury the pot in the ground for winter

What are the signs of marijuana starting to flower?

Saturday, June 11th, 2011

I have two female plants(unfertilized by male) growing outdoors and am anxiously waiting to observe signs of flowering. Both are about 4- 5 feet tall

What are the first signs of flowering?

I also heard that it needs 12 hours of sunlight to flower but i grow outside in Florida and cant control the sun. So any suggestions?

If i don’t give it 12 hours will it eventually flower anyway or just keep growing to a giant plant without bud?

After you have pre-flowered your plants to determine their sex, its time to decide if you want to flower females for buds or if you want to flower males for pollen and cross-breeding. Female plants are known for their heavy, potent flowers filled with resin. The best strains for indoor growing are the ones that stay short and bushy with branches close together, creating denser buds and requiring less space to be grown in. Cannabis plants will start to flower when they receive 12 hours of light per day. In order to force flowering you also need to change the nutrients and the lights from metal halide to high-pressure sodium. Most strains will show signs of flowers within 2 weeks of being introduced into flowering. The flowers will appear near the top of the plant, small white pistols will appear as shown in this picture. The flowering time varies from strain to strain, averaging 9 weeks. Once your plants are done flowering you will need to harvest them.
Male Cannabis Plants flower approx. 1-2 weeks before females. When male plants flower they release pollen, which will find its way to a female, creating buds filled with seeds. If you do not want seeds you need to remove the plant as soon as it shows signs of being a male. If you are choosing to cross-breed, you will want to have female plants in the room you are using for flowering marijuana.

What flower opens during the night and closes during the day?

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

I was at a market the other day and a guy was selling plants he told me about a type of flower that will bloom during the night and close up during the day. I want to know what it looks like and what it’s called. He never had a name for it which I think is weird since he knows about it… Anyways thanks in advance!

There is a "Night-Blooming -Jasmine" but like the other answers they do not close during the day. on the otherhand"Morning Glory> must bloom during the night, but by the afternoon the flowers die, but you get some more the following day

What is the name of the flower that blooms in early spring in Ontario?

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

I learned this in biology class last semester, and im trying to think of it now but i can’t remember. My teacher said its a purple flower and it blooms on the forest ground before the leaves on the trees sprout, but once the leaves on the trees come in, the flowers die, regarding the factor that the sunshine is being blocked by the leaves, therefore no energy is supplied for the flowers. She also said that it is illegal to pick them, as they are sacred or something to Ontario. Have any idea what it may be called? Thanks

To me your description of the flower also sounds like crocus but I’m not sure about it being illegal to pick…
