I am planning on making my bridal bouquet, bridesmaids, and centerpeices. Therefor, I would like to purchase them soon. I know gerbera daisy’s can be pretty cheap, and they’re pretty cute too. Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions. I would just like to explore my options.
Thanks!
You can rent centerpieces at craft stores, I was at Hobby Lobby yesterday and they advertised that they rented out silk flower centerpieces, arches, altar decor, etc. You could try a store like that and see if you can get a discount deal on those things. That way you could save money on those and splurge on the hand held arrangements. I also think that there isn’t much of a difference in prices between the different types of silk flowers, unlike real flowers.

I’m getting married in December and my colors are red and black, I am having difficulties finding silk black (also known as deep purple) calla lilies, it kills me to spend a lot of money on fresh flowers that will die the next day!!
If you are going to be rude about my choice of using silk flowers please dont post. I’m asking for information on where to find flowers not for you to judge about my choices.
You should really talk to your local florist.

It’s not going in an envelope, I’m talking full size artificial flowers. I’m doing some floristry for a wedding and haven’t done an awful lot of artificial flowers before, so I’m just wondering whether silk flowers and foam flowers are actually the same, given that they look very similar in the pictures.
Foam flower petals are thicker than silk flower petals. They don’t have that flower petal feel that silk can reproduce; rather they will feel like foam sheeting. Up close they do not look nearly as real as silk, and are more for outdoor events, or places where the flowers will need to stand up to harsher treatment.
Since people tend to get rather close to look and poke at flower arrangements at weddings, I think you should use the silk since they will look and feel more realistic up close.

My wedding is on July 18, 2008 and I am having a hard time coming up with what types of flowers to decorate with. I need some ideas (besided red, white, and blue roses or carnations)…
Red and white……if you aren’t careful blue silks tend to look pretty cheap.
Just take a drive to the Garden Ridge or equivilant craft store in your area and walk around. Browse up and down aisles and load the cart with any flower in your colors that catch your eye, then narrow down to a few. What would be good for you will depend on the other details of your wedding like budget, formality, time/date….etc.
The good news about silks is if you see a flower that you like in nature but say it only comes in pink….you can probably find a red silk version.

Have you seen any that look really good or really bad? I am seriously considering using fake flowers to save money, but I don’t want them to look tacky. I do understand that sometimes silk flowers can be as expensive as real, but I have that part covered.
Hi Sammy,
You can go with artificial flowers. It will only look tacky if you buy tacky artifical flowers, like from a craft store. I’ve done some research on this for a bride I’m working with and it seems that there is a type of artificial flower called "natural touch," which is supposed to look and feel like a real flower. Even if it’s a bit more expensive, I think it would be worth it.
I’m attaching a link below to a site I found that you might want to explore.
Best Wedding Wishes!
